KATLYN REX It is with profound sorrow and broken hearts that the family and friends of Katlyn Loy Rex shares the news of her sudden and accidental death on Wednesday, April 25, 2007. Katlyn was born in Winnipeg on Saturday, October 8, 1988. She came in to this world quickly and with a radiant smile. Those two traits became her trademark. Always that smile, always that energy and spirit radiated from her. Who would know that we would have her with us for such a short time. Katlyn played with enthusiasm and was never afraid to try something new. On her farm, she rode horses, rescued critters, helped her Dad born' baby calves, grew oats for her horses, touched the sky as she jumped on the trampoline, chattered like a wren; she explored and imagined, drew and painted, wrote heart-touching poetry and insightful prose. Katlyn wandered our sand hills, she rode her bike at a tender age, and surrounded herself with friends that she kept for a lifetime. Each friend was a precious jewel to her and she kept each one close to her heart. Katlyn mourned when a friendship seemed lost and rejoiced when it was rekindled. Katlyn adored her family and embraced us all. She seemed to have a life wisdom, a passion, and a need to pack as much life as possible into every 24 hours. Even as a teenager, she was never afraid or unable to hug and hold us, she was the consummate cuddler'. She loved to plop herself next to you, wrap her little frame around you. Katlyn ended every conversation, every text, every letter, every relationship with love you and we would say back at you, sweetheart . Katlyn enjoyed five years of amateur theatre through the Treherne Collegiate Drama Club. She was in 4-H for many years winning many communication prizes. Katlyn taught Sunday School and had a leadership role in Vacation Bible School and at Rock Lake United Church Camp. Katlyn was on Student Council and was President of the Treherne Collegiate Institute Student Council in her last year of high school. Katlyn excelled academically, not because of any inherent intelligence, but because she worked really, really hard. She was ferociously determined and persistent to get it and worked diligently at understanding. Some subjects like Physics and Calculus did not come naturally to her and she pestered those teachers until she got it (thank you for your patience). She was passionate about her involvement with the Tiger Mountain Youth Justice Committee. Going to Brandon University was so exciting for her. She wanted to make every single moment of that adventure live in her heart and in our hearts as well. She absolutely loved university and again with her usual determination and work ethic excelled in that first year. She made a load of new friends and, we are told, touched the hearts of many. She gathered up her new friends and brought them home to the farm at Easter to eat, to hot tub, to talk, laugh and prepare for the last push of final exams. We are so grateful to so many friends and colleagues for their unwavering support. It is still unbelievable to us that she is gone from us and we continue to remember, to cry and to love her. Through the veil of our tears and the silence of our emptiness, assure us again that ear has not heard, nor eye seen, nor human mind imagined, what you have prepared for those who love you. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 30 at the Holland Catholic Centre at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Brookdale Cemetery and reception at Holland Community Center. If friends and family so desire memoriam can be made to Holland United Church, Holland MB, R0G 0X0 or Tiger Mountain Youth Justice Committee, Box 293 Treherne, MB, R0G 2V0.
